The best mother-in-law I could have dreamed to ask for

I am so grateful to have had a mother-in-law and friend like Debi. She went to extreme lengths to welcome me to the family and to help make Yorkshire a home to me. She embraced my own family deeply: welcoming them with open arms (and often an impeccable roast dinner) on their many visits to the UK, and making the trip to Minnesota in 2022 to celebrate my sister's wedding.

She was my fiercely competitive euchre and cribbage teammate. She never missed our weekly walks, where we shared so many special conversations. She cared for our dog Petunia and our daughter Maeve with true and abundant love. She was the most generous person I've ever known. Everyone who met her loved her, and felt loved by her, instantly.

Rest peacefully, Debi. You are so enormously missed.

Love always,

A Message from Neeshar and Daizy

Debi touched my heart through the love and kindness she showed Daizy my Daughter when she attended Darlington on Tuesday evenings. Daizy would speak of her often, and hearing those moments of care meant more than I can put into words.

When I later met Debi, I felt that same gentle, loving nature straight away. Being welcomed at the table with your family, keeping in touch through messages, and sharing that last hug at stake conference in september. The hug she told me she had waited for and needed. These are the moments I will always hold close. They speak so clearly of the kind of woman she was.

Thank you for sharing her with me and my daughter.

My Lovely Friend

I first met Debi in the early 80’s, and my first thoughts were, oh she won’t be my type of person as she was always very confident and very popular, unlike me I thought, but we started chatting and it was the start of a very special friendship that lasted all these years, therefore the thought of her not just being there, will be very hard. One of our favourite pastimes was playing pool and snooker every week which has also stayed with us over the years, and we were actually very good. Some of my most precious memories did indeed involve Debi which can never be taken away. God bless you my friend and until we meet again xxxxx

A poem I wrote for Deb before her illness.

My friend Debi

I’ve known you for more than thirty years

And we have laughed a river of tears

We met at work and the feeling was strong

I knew our friendship would be lifelong

You are unique and bring sunshine to all you touch

Debi was our Carly’s second mom, and we could not be more grateful for how she and J looked after Carly as one of their very own when Carly first visited and later moved to North Yorkshire with Rich. But then that’s just who Debi was. When in her presence you felt completely and unconditionally loved by her.
